Alexis Joseph
#19 Saint John Sea Dogs. Left shot C. 6’5” / 201
DOB: June 16, 2009
Joseph is a highly productive, physically imposing centre who combines legitimate size with surprisingly good mobility. He skates very well for a 6’5” forward and does a good job using that combination to work himself into high-danger areas. He attacks the middle of the ice and looks to put pucks on net. He is also an effective passer, particularly when finding teammates in the slot and creating chances from below the hash marks. Around the crease, Joseph is extremely effective, using his frame to establish position, create traffic, and make himself difficult to contain.
Joseph will need to improve his shift-to-shift consistency. At times, he can fade when the pace increases and could do a better job imposing his size and strength more consistently. Improving his urgency away from the puck and influencing games more regularly will be important as he develops.
There is also an intriguing defensive upside in his game. If Joseph can fully buy into that side of the puck, he has the tools to become an effective player in his own zone. He also has the potential to become a great penalty killer. His size allows him to take up a considerable amount of space, while his reach and mobility help him close lanes and disrupt puck movement. Continuing to develop his defensive consistency and overall engagement away from the puck will be important as his role grows.
Joseph’s combination of size and skating gives him a relatively safe floor as a potential everyday NHL player, but the offensive upside is considerably higher. If his scoring, playmaking, and two-way game continue to progress, he has the potential to develop into a legitimate top-six NHL centre and is a strong candidate to be a lottery pick in the 2027 NHL Draft.
