2027 NHL Draft Prospect Report – Caiden Pellegrino (C)

Caiden Pellegrino – LHC – Rimouski Oceanic QMJHL

(1 Oct and 2 Oct vs Sherbrooke, 10 Oct Newfoundland)

He is an offensive catalyst for his club, possessing the type of dynamic puck control and high-end hockey sense that makes scouts lean over the glass. When the puck is on his stick, he slows the game down to his cadence, using elite evasion skills and a deceptive release to manipulate defensive structures. He’s a natural distributor who can anticipate an evolving play, but his shooting arsenal has evolved into a legitimate threat; he can snap a puck cleanly in full stride or change the angle to freeze a netminder. His compete level ensures he stays inside the dots. This means that despite his size, he isn’t just a perimeter playmaker; he actively hunts for high-danger ice by gliding in and out of traffic, losing his defender, then driving to the net when he sees the opportunity.

When you look at his skating style, it’s defined by a smooth, efficient stride and a remarkably low center of gravity. Pellegrino isn’t just about straight-line speed; his real advantage lies in his lateral agility, crisp edge work, and a quick, explosive first step that allows him to win short-race puck battles cleanly. But due to his size, he needs to use timing and deception along with his quick feet to win those races and battles. He can transition from a standstill to top flight in only a few strides, using sudden direction changes and his edge work to leave defenders flat-footed at the blue line. This high-gear mobility feeds directly into his offensive transition game, allowing him to carry through the neutral zone with his head up, processing coverage options on the fly.

On the other side of the puck, he brings a cerebral, structured approach to his defensive game. He tracks back smartly, positioning himself well into the lanes and using stick positioning to take up more space and clog up passing lanes. While he still needs to add physical bulk to better handle puck battles along the wall against larger opponents, it will be his ability to outthink and outposition his opponent that will win him those battles.

His work ethic and willingness to compete in the dirty areas are consistent. Because of this, he projects as a mid-round middle-six winger (likely third line) that will need time to fill out physically as he refines his game.
