Weekly 2027 Draft Eligible Three Stars

Weekly 2027 Draft Eligible Three Stars

The first holiday weekend (at least in Canada) of the hockey season brought plenty to be thankful for. This week’s draft-eligible three stars feature three CHL centres who had productive weeks. James Scantlebury of the Quebec Remparts is proving to be one of the league’s top draft-eligible players. Second-year OHLer Ethan Walos is looking to level up his play this season. Finally, Ryerson Edgar is starting to heat up after a slow start.

Here are the draft-eligible three stars for the week of October 5 to 12:

James Scantlebury | C | Quebec Remparts (QMJHL)

Montreal, QC, native James Scantlebury has eased into play in his first QMJHL season. After playing in the USHL with the Chicago Steel in 2025-26, the centre man has 17 points (eight goals, nine assists) in eight games.

The Boston University commit for the 2027 season had a monster weekend to be thankful for. The former Bishop Kearney Select had eight points (two goals, six assists) in two games.

To open, the 5-foot-10, 174-pound pivot picked up a pair of assists in a 4-2 win over Cape Breton. Scantlebury tipped the puck up to teammate Nathan Quinn and acted as the decoy on the two-on-one advantage. Quinn made no mistake with a shot beating the goalie. He added a secondary helper on a power play marker in the second period.

The former USHL All-Rookie Team selection was too much to handle for Chicoutimi as he piled up six points in a 7-6 win. Scantlebury opened the scoring for the Remparts by taking a pass in the offensive zone and quickly firing a wrist shot to tie the game. Three minutes later, he set up teammate Nikita Ovcharov down low to take the lead. Later in the period, Scantlebury set up in some open ice in the offensive end. Quinn found him with a pass, and he fired a quick shot past the Chicoutimi keeper for his second of the afternoon.

Scantlebury picked up three more assists in the game as the Remparts managed to hold on for the win.

Easton Walos | C | Sarnia Sting (OHL)

American centre Easton Walos is having a strong start to his second OHL campaign. The Hartland, WI, native had 48 points (25 goalsm 23 assists) in his rookie season and already has 12 (seven goals, five assists) in nine games.

The former Salmon Arm Silverback in the BCHL picked up four points (two goals, two assists) in a pair of games this past weekend. Following a chip out of the zone to teammate Jack Van Volsen, Walos picked up a secondary assist. Van Volsen redirected the puck to Columbus Blue Jackets draft pick Alessandro Di Iorio, who deposited it in the net. Walos picked up another assist in the third period. After getting the puck wide open in the slot, he fired it on goal. However, the rebound burst out, and a teammate was able to jam it home.

Trailing 2-0 early against the Flint Firebirds, Walos got his team on the board. Right after opening up and calling for the puck, the former Milwaukee Jr. Admiral blasted a one-timer the goalie had no chance to stop. Later in the period, after a teammate fired a shot on goal, Walos jumped on the rebound to tap it home for his daily double.

Ryerson Edgar | C | Niagara IceDogs (OHL)

Undersized centre Ryerson Edgar has struggled to find the scoresheet early in his draft year. However, the 5-foot-10, 161-pound pivot is starting to pick it up. After not registering a point in his first three games this season, the Holland Landing, ON native, has seven points in his last five.

Niagara opened the weekend hosting the Ottawa 67’s in a hotly contested affair. The teams were knotted at a goal a piece following the end of regulation. When a puck ended up deep in the Niagara zone with less than a minute left, Edgar lifted a stretch pass out. His teammate was able to collect it and take it on goal. The rebound was left in front and popped in for the win.

Edgar was sensational in his second game of the weekend, picking up first star honours with three points. The former Collingwood Blue picked up his first point of the evening midway through the first period. Edgar transported the puck to the offensive zone and waited for teammates to arrive. He then sent a pass to the middle, where Layne Gallacher launched it into the net. He picked up a secondary assist on the power play after taking a shot from the point. His teammates were able to find the loose rebound and poke it in.

The University of Michigan commit for the 2028 season broke the tie with a nifty play in the offensive zone. Skating quickly onto the defence, Edgar forced a misplay with the puck and was able to steal it away. From right between the face-off circles, he fired a quick shot over the goalie’s glove side.
